Art and Design

Introduction to observational drawing. Proportion. Ceramics techniques, test tiles. Construction of a clay self-portrait. Self-Portraiture (clay) Exploration of colour with oil pastel. Translating drawing into design. Reduction printing using multiple colours Further development of observational drawing. Colour theory and colour mixing. Discussion of the significance of specific cultural and historical context, introduction to Cubism. Painting techniques. Natural Forms (printmaking) The Weeping Woman (painting) Introduction to still life, observational drawing. Introduction to Pop Art, exploration of colour with oil pastel. Discussion of historical and contemporary art movements. Stylistic application to student’s chosen imagery. Still Life (painting) Building on prior knowledge and development of observational drawing skills. Understanding the importance of preparatory work. Ceramics techniques. Construction of a clay pot, based on students own designs Contemporary Ceramics (clay) Experimental drawing techniques. Drawing from life. Experimenting with approaches to image making, specifically in regard to monoprinting, ink drawing and collage. Design and Technology

Curriculum overview 2024-2025 Design and Technology YEAR 7 YEAR 8 Students design a clock based on a design movement, they develop design and make skills working with plastic. This is supported with learning about sustainability and the impact plastic has on the environment. Students will produce a highquality product and will be assessed in their research, design, making, evaluation and CAD skills. Acrylic Clock Students learn how to develop, communicate, record and explain design developments. Students learn to develop practical skills working with manufactured board and natural timber. This is supported with learning about sustainability and the impact timber has on the environment. Students will develop their CAD skills to enable them to produce high quality products. Students are assessed in the areas of design development, woodwork and CAD skills. Wooden Secret Box Students build up a basic skill set through regular practical sessions, introducing them to a range of food preparation and cooking techniques. These are supported with learning in nutrition, food hygiene and safety and the Eatwell guide. Students finish the rotation with a written assessment. Food and cooking Students will deepen their knowledge of food and nutrition and further advance their practical skills, enabling them to be selfsufficient in the kitchen. They will follow a curriculum which introduces them to food provenance and develop a repertoire of both sweet and savoury dishes. Students will finish the rotation with a written assessment. Diet and health Students carry out investigations that they use to aid the creation of their design ideas. They produce a template of their final solution which they then make using textile materials. They develop their hand sewing skills and gain an understanding of how fabric can be embellished to enhance the product. The manufactured product is then tested and evaluated. Soft Toy Character Students analyse existing products and designs to identify successful criteria for their own product. They create a range of design ideas and develop their knowledge of decorative techniques used for textile materials. They learn how to use the sewing machine in order to make their product. Their manufactured charity bag is then tested and evaluated. Charity Bag
